I especially like that lower left image Kiya, it has a perfect Halloween flair to it. Does anyone recognize it as GW when they see your stuff?

I love this thread, it's great to see what everyone else is doing.

Pumpkins are like to Halloween like large decorated pine trees are to Christmas/Wintersday.

Worked all through the day, almost dinner time now and im well due for a break...

*over 1mb picture*
http://www.dnai.nl/GW/Halloween_Work6.jpg

Slowly getting there, one more picture to go, and then add some spice and a bit more decoration to fill in some black spots ... seeing it is a very busy picture im applying the inverse of less is more ... nml. More is Less ... meaning as much as, by adding more it will become more of a whole instead of a busy looking arrangement of pictures and tekst... (atleast i hope :P ) ... Goodluck on the rest of you guys, still about 24h to go till deadline ....

Hmmm, okay, must have gotten mixed up with the horrorween deadline which was today, and more over, my personal deadline which i put a few days ahead of the normal one, but, it said i could win a price here aswell by keeping you sharp and on the job , these sharp deadlines serve as a warning and help you get focussed ... so i checked the official site and indeed you are right, its the 23d ... woa, lol that means i finished early for a change ...

One thing i am still in doubt about though, in the mad king thorn says game, do you die or get knocked down, its over a year ago and my memory of it is faint ... any help here would be much appreciated

The animation and sound is that of your toon dying (all the names of the losers are grey too as it is when you are dead) iirc.

Thanks alot, means ill have to change that then ... i also had another question ... i read the rules and i dont understand the 'Clip art' ... probably because english is not my native language, what does this term mean ?

Also kindoff shocked by the 'originality rule' ... because that sortoff means my piece is hardly original, as i used the trailer tekst with a halloween twist, used ingame shots and pictures i found on the internet to combine my piece; now perhaps i could have drawn everything, but from the work i had by combining everything into the total comic that would have been a massive undertaking ... this was (for me atleast) the only way to pull this off in the time given...

I also wondered about the shots i used (in game) and pulled from the internet, seeing they are all made with Guildwars game, doesnt this imply that all the copyrights of the images are from Arenanet?

No worries, I'm pretty sure ingame stuff is all fair game (there've been modified screens that won prizes in previous years -check the 2005 winners list). What the originality rule means is that it's not okay to use clipart from the internet and especially not to plagiarize someone else's work. But you should be okay since the only external source you've got is Guild Wars, and you did make up the Halloween text yourself from the trailer stuff.

BTW, it should be "whose name", not "who's name", in the upper right bit.

EDIT: In other news, I just realized this morning that the 23rd is Friday, not Thursday. I'm a lot less panicky now.

Clip art is usually stock images and illustrations that you can buy and use for advertisement and documents.

From my understanding after briefly reviewing the conditions they are referring to material sourced from outside Guild Wars that is not of your own creation.

If you were taking screen shots of games that is not guild wars I think that would be an issue. Or if instead of a gwen chan plushie you made a sackboy mad king (as Anet do not own the sackboy image/idea), but even if you drew a character design (ie the candy corn golem) that is not technically original as the design is not your own, but in the scope of a GW comp it is acceptable as they want to see their own works and themes expressed by other artists.

All the work is looking amazing by the way! (I could stare at Charlie's drawing all day o_o) And props to Tzu and co for initiating such a great idea!

Today seems to be a day of realizations.

I'm really glad you Gurus are providing all this extra incentive to work, because I just now noticed how crappy the prizes are this year. I was so excited about the art book, I didn't even notice that where previous years' grand prizes were worth several hundred dollars, this year's are worth less than fifty bucks. Wow. Way to be cheapskates, ANet. Y'all better be holding out the good stuff (that is, the GW2 preorders, etc) for the Wintersday contest.

So thanks Nolani folks for picking up ANet's slack AND helping improve all our art at the same time.

Hah, glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. But yes, this contest was a pretty fun event to get some quality work from everyone.

Everyone's pieces are looking great. Kiya, your golem montage looks awesome; Blue, loving your dynamic Mecha Zhaitan(sp?) piece; Morag, your finished piece looks great! Diggin the creepy lightning effect the tormented creature is using; Minami, I like where you're going with this

Keep at it everyone, you guys are almost done.

Aww thanks Charlie. Your piece looks freaking awesome as well, as I and many others have said many many times already :P

You guys are right on the prizes, but I actually would work just that much harder for the gw2 art book rather than all the other 100$+ prizes :|. I know I can just buy one... but... :\ it's just not the same ya know?

I think my "piece" will look pretty drastically different at the end, but I think I'll refrain from posting any more WiPs until the end because that tends to persuade myself that I am done XD.

Anyways, I haven't had much time lately, with a paper due on Thursday, but hopefully I can pull off something awesome :P

I was hoping they were going to throw in some storage panes and makeovers into the prize packs, and more than 20. Wintersday will probably have better prizes.

Sending mine in tomorrow and crossing my fingers.

Haha yeah makeover packs would be great... or storage...

Well, I got the stupid lineart done. Whooo. Still have to paint it and probably fix the lines some more (supar messy, because I do stupid little sketchy strokes and when I tried to ink over it all neat it looked even worse). I'm not going to post progress pics either, but unlike Blue it's so I don't completely panic. I only have about 3 hours to do this in... let's hope I can pull it off.

Damn you, sleep! Stupid over-demanding body, requiring me to sleep through so much art time. Somebody really ought to figure out how to get rid of that whole nonense. >.<

haha! when we complained about lack of time in my ID course, our design teachers always used to say: There's 24 hours to the day, and if that's not enough, you can always work at night. so yeah, damn you, sleep!

I sent mine yesterday. I'll be fully and completely without internet for a week now (*DOH*) and just wanted to get it out of the way. You're right about the prizes, bit shabby in terms of money value, but in fact I prefer it to keyboards/vidcards/mouses/hardwarejunk because I'm using a laptop so yeah, artbooks are cool. and winning them instead of buying is epicwin

Good luck to all who still need to finish! You can pull it off!!
*cheers from the sidelines*

Yep, I miss my apartment... I could go to bed at 3 in the morning after a marathon 7-hour Xena/Buffy-and-drawing session. Stupid rules about going to bed at a reasonable hour... :P

And really, I wouldn't use hardware either. But they could have offered GW2 preorders (hey, get us first into the game, so we can spread the word - good advertising for ANet) or in-game packages with IRL value (ie makeovers, chara slots, or storage). But whatever.

Alrighty, I gotta get all my work done today and tomorrow so I have time to work on this. And then just burn through it. Hope I can pull it off.

Tnx for the explination on the clipart thing, and Qing for the spelling check ... im glad i set the deadline for myself at the 21th, as i now have two days for the final touchups ... scaring everybody with my post looks like it might have been a good thing, seeing allot are (like i expected) still very busy, so those that are still working 'heads up' and keep going ...

-------------------------------------------

!!! To up the spirit I decided to contribute to the competition with a price of my own ... this price will consist of various ingame items that should give the winner a 'headstart' in the halloween festivities, and as such will function as a 2e bonus price ...

Quote:
The spirit of Halloween; this price goes to anyone that, by my personal views captured the spirit of halloween with their artpiece best, or qualifies for this price 'in the spirit of Halloween'; This winner will receive atleast 5 mysterious tonics, and an assortment of other party items which can be used during the Halloween Event. (*depending on what i have available in my party pane)
* I will announce my winner after the judges of this thread have announced their list, so that i can avoid giving this 'its the idea the counts' price to someone that has won 100k

Goodluck all !
